Sources
Everything on this site is built from open data. Each item also links to the exact record each of its dates came from.
| Source | Licence | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Wikidata | CC0 | Every date, label, description and classification |
| Wikimedia Commons | Public domain or CC BY, per file | Subject images, credited individually where the licence asks |
| Wikipedia "On this day" feed | CC BY-SA (not published) | Finding candidates only. No text or date from it reaches a page |
No text from Wikipedia articles is published anywhere on this site. Claim sentences are written here; labels, descriptions and dates come from Wikidata, which is CC0 and carries no attribution requirement. Where an image requires a credit, the credit is beside it and links to its own source page.
Checking one yourself
Every subject on this site has a Wikidata page, and every date shown here is a field on it. Open the page, find the property the date came from, and you are looking at the same record we are. Wikidata also shows where each statement was sourced and when it last changed, so a date that looks wrong can be traced rather than argued about.
If it is wrong there, it is wrong here, and the fix belongs on Wikidata where everyone gets it. If we have it wrong and Wikidata has it right, that is ours to fix, and how we handle that is on the method page.
